The best alternative wedding venues in Liverpool.

So you’re recently engaged and are planning your fantastic wedding in the amazing city of Liverpool. I hear you! You’re pretty spoilt for choice with so many great options in and around the city for both huge and more intimate celebrations, with venues that allow you to put your stamp on your special day.

Liverpool is a city steeped in rich cultural and industrial history and is known all around the world. As the city grew due to trading in the 18th century, it became one of the most important ports in Britain. As the docks spread along the Mersey and the city expanded, many interesting buildings sprung up to support the growing trades. Its connection to the west, particularly America, also meant Liverpool was often ahead of the curve in fashion and hearing new sounds from beyond these shores in the days before Spotify - and to be fair, Liverpool has paid it forward with many significant musical exports too.

But you’re not here for a history lesson. You’re here because you’re planning your own Liverpool wedding and are hopefully looking for a Liverpool wedding photographer. But the history of this city, like any other in the UK, has shaped what it is today and is why there are so many exciting and versatile options to choose from. From rustic to formal, from intimate to epic - a wedding doesn’t need to follow a set format or be determined by the venue; any decent modern wedding venue will work with you to create the day you want. So in no particular order (although I did have my wedding party at one of these venues), here are ten options that would make an excellent setting for your fantastic day.

If you’re looking for a wedding photographer to document your Liverpool wedding and feel connected with my work, please get in touch; it would be great to hear your plans.

1. Oh Me, Oh My

First up, in the heart of Liverpool, we have Oh Me, Oh My, a fantastic venue in a former bank building. It can accommodate various party sizes with versatile space for your guests to chat or dance all night. Oh, and it also has a roof garden with spectacular views of the city, which make for a pretty unique backdrop for some relaxed photos in the heart of Liverpool. Have a look at their website here.

2. Love Lane Brewery

Fancy something a bit different? Next is Love Lane Brewery, and you don't need to be a craft beer connoisseur to appreciate that as settings for wedding receptions go, it doesn't get much cooler than a brewery in the trendy Baltic Triangle area of the city. Whether you’re planning an intimate celebration with fewer than 45 guests or a bigger party for up to 110, Love Lane Brewery are flexible and can cater for several different wedding party sizes.

3. The Bluecoat Arts Centre

The Bluecoat Arts Centre is a unique venue right in the heart of Liverpool. A historical Grade I listed building which boasts a courtyard and a secluded garden. With a team of event coordinators on hand to help you and an in-house catering team, too. An effortlessly cool venue which can host ceremonies and cater for various party sizes.

7. The Hilton Hotel

There are many great hotel venues to choose from in Liverpool and The Hilton Hotel is a fantastic option, conveniently set in Liverpool One. They can host both religious and civil ceremonies. And with a choice of two suites, The Albert, which can cater for up to 130 guests or The Grace Suite, which can accommodate up to 300, this is an excellent option for a big city centre celebration.

9. Sefton Park Palm House

For a truly unique and stunning wedding venue capable of seating up to 220 guests, look no further than Sefton Park Palm House, a lovely Victorian glasshouse in the heart of one of Liverpool’s most loved parks. Enjoy getting married in a beautiful, bright space surrounded by exotic plants and palm trees. Whilst being looked after by an experienced and talented team.

10. The Reader, Mansion House

Lovingly revived by national charity The Reader in 2019, The Mansion House is a Grade II listed building set among acres of another of Liverpool’s most beautiful parks, Calderstones Park. Whether you’re a book lover or not, the art-deco-inspired theatre room can comfortably hold up to 80 guests for your ceremony and wedding breakfast, with additional capacity for the evening - the bi-folding doors also open to the secret garden and private terrace to the rear of the House - perfect, particularly for summer days and evenings.

11. The Listers Steps at The Old Library

13. Sub Rosa

8. The Titanic Hotel

While we’re on the subject of great Liverpool hotel venues, The Titanic Hotel can offer civil marriage and civil partnership ceremonies with a choice of not one but two venues. For a - not exactly - small ceremony and wedding breakfast, the West Bay can cater for up to 180 guests (they require a minimum of 80 day and 120 evening guests). You and your guests can enjoy the view of Liverpool’s docks from the large windows or step outside and take advantage of the colonnade for summer reception drinks. The Titanic Hotel can also offer the strikingly renovated 1950’ Rum Warehouse - a spectacular setting overlooking the Stanley Dock. This grand venue can accommodate up to 500 guests for a seated wedding breakfast (again, they require a minimum of 100 guests during the day and 180 in the evening.

4. Everyman

On Hope Street, nestled between Liverpool’s two cathedrals, is an iconic Stirling Prize-winning building that also happens to be a theatre and café. The iconic Everyman Theatre on Hope Street sports an epic balcony that stretches across the length of the building. Inside is a comfortable modern setting that’s effectively three venues under one roof - a trendy theatre bar, a bistro and the option of the theatre space too for your ceremony. This is also where my wife and I chose to celebrate our wedding, so this one is close to my heart.

5. One Fine Day

One Fine Day is another excellent city centre choice for a bespoke Liverpool wedding. Its high ceilings and large contrasting pillars make it a stunningly versatile backdrop for your celebrations and a great setting for a wild-packed dance floor.

6. Leaf on Bold Street

A stunning art-deco building steeped in history as a former tea room and, more recently, a cinema. It’s now a bohemian event space, bar and restaurant on Liverpool’s Bold Street. They can accommodate between 90 and 250 guests with exclusive use of the first floor. It’s the perfect space to dine and celebrate with your friends and family, whether you want a formal or more relaxed gathering.
