The Old Library Liverpool Wedding Photographer | Sarah + Alex
Sarah and Alex had a wonderful time celebrating their marriage with friends and family at the charming and historic Old Library in Liverpool. It was a joy to be their wedding photographer and capture this special day.
Relaxed and candid wedding photography at The Old Library, Liverpool
The Old Library has been a part of Liverpool’s history since 1905, donated to the city by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie as a space for learning. It served the local community for many generations before falling into disrepair in 2006. However, in 2012, Liverpool charity Lister Steps began the long journey to restore the site, eventually reopening it in 2020.
As a wedding photographer, it was amazing to work here for the first time, it’s a unique venue for a wedding in the heart of Liverpool, with beautiful natural light flooding into The Atrium from the huge glass-domed roof, along with many unique and original restored features, it made for a lovely setting. I hope you’ll agree that the photos look stunning.
I arrived about an hour before the ceremony to capture guests as they arrived and mingled in the bar area. Alex, sporting a dark blue suit and black and white Vans trainers, welcomed guests as they entered. Sarah was here not long after, just as guests made their way to their seats in The Reading Room for the ceremony. She walked down the aisle in an ASOS dress and Doc Martens, accompanied by her older brother, James.
After the ceremony, Sarah and Alex headed upstairs for a few minutes alone with some Nosecco bubbly, while their guests gathered for the confetti line out front. Local musician Ali Horn played a set while guests enjoyed various canapés as Sarah, Alex, and their little boy Leighton made their way around chatting with everyone.
Following the group photos, Sarah and Alex went off for a walk together, and we captured a few relaxed portraits in and around The Old Library. This was a great opportunity to capture some of the venue's original features, including the large glass dome above The Atrium and the lovely Victorian-style tiles and original wooden features. Fortunately, the rain held off for the group photos and outdoor portraits too as shortly afterwards as the food was served, there was another shower as a rainbow formed in the distance. The showers were brief and guests soon gathered on the lawn, where younger ones enjoyed playing games and splashing in puddles.
It was then time for the speeches, with touching words from Sarah’s brother James and groom Alex, who remembered special loved ones and thanked their guests, followed by best man Jon. As evening guests arrived, more people enjoyed the late evening sunshine outside on the lawn before it was time for the first dance.
Here are a few of my favourite images from Sarah and Alex’s day, mostly documentary shots captured as they happened, with a few portraits too. If you need a wedding photographer to capture your special day and like what you see, get in touch. I would love to hear from you.
